Youth Orchestras
With a strong background in music education, Karen is passionate about working with youth ensembles. Karen has created a score study programme to accompany orchestral courses where she presents and teaches the score to players in advance of rehearsals. The aim of this is to discover the themes, the structure, the characters and to bring the music to life before they join the orchestra and help the players discover the full piece, not just their part. Karen has presented this programme to Youth Orchestras in the USA, UK and Ireland at both school, university and national youth orchestra level, most notably, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, West of England Youth Orchestra, Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Youth Orchestra, Cork School of Music, Leeds Conservatoire and University Orchestra, and The London Schools Symphony Orchestra.

Teaching
Our body is our instrument, we must protect it, our mind and make sure both are strong and resilient. A conductor is there to guide and lead through trust, collaboration and communication.
Teaching conducting at any level for any ensemble (vocal or instrumental), this is Karen’s philosophy.
